Cassandra (Cassie) tries to avoid Lang and Nick because she wants to handle a problem with an abusive ex herself.  Lang and Nick are determined she will be theirs, though they don’t trust that she won’t run again.

Commando Cowboys Reclaim Their Love is the fourth book of the Wyoming Warriors series and gives us more information about the warriors and the society at the ranch.  Each book in the series gives us a better glimpse of the alien society and the fact that there is a lost group of their people slowly gathering at the ranch.

This book also goes into another abusive situation and shows what can happen when an abuser has power and money behind them.  This situation has a revenge situation, that is very realistic.

As the story progresses, new characters are introduced that will play a big part in future stories. I love the way each man woos their mate in this series.  Even when a woman is very independent, the men are protective but also try to let the woman be herself.  Cassie’s mom is very sick and the author went to a lot of trouble to show the differences between a ‘human’ and the warrior’s race and some of the problems that can crop up when experimental drugs are tested.

I am looking forward to the next few books in this series to see how the next group of men handles their future mates.

Finding Chrissten

After she was kidnapped, Chrissten Lawton spent eighteen months in the hands of an insane scientist determined to unravel the mystery of her half-breed werewolf DNA. She suffered through terrible beatings and repeated rapes by a brutal pureblood werewolf who claimed her as his mate. Chrissten is weakening more by the day and has almost given up hope of escape when her longed-for rescue finally comes. She can hardly believe it, she’s free.

Hank Brewer can’t express his feelings for Chrissten but knows in his heart that he has to protect her. He spends each night at her bedside, standing guard against all who would hurt her. That includes her rogue mate who, everyone is certain, will come after her and the other females of the Haven pack. As a half-breed, Hank knows he isn’t as strong as Chrissten’s mate but he’s willing to die for her. Why does telling her his feelings seem so much harder?

Finding Chrissten is the newest release in NJ Walters’ Legacy series and due to the continuing storyline, I recommend the books be read in order.

It’s a well-written and smooth-flowing book and it draws you into the story from the opening page. Chrissten is a wonderful character and the situation she finds herself in is terrible, filling the story with intense emotions…fear, pain, depression, rage and near defeat. But that’s not all. She still has a great desire to survive and escape and Ms. Walters expresses all these emotions well, almost painting a picture of what she feels and what she went through during her captivity. Then there’s Hank. He’s a dedicated man and wants desperately to help Chrissten recover…to protect her. Putting them together as a couple…as mates, is a super idea. They both have faults and demons to deal with but mesh well together. It takes them awhile but when their relationship turns physical, it’s tender but hot.

I loved seeing characters from the previous releases and the author draws them into the story seamlessly. That is particularly true of brothers Quinn and Craig. I love these guys. They and the other members of the Haven pack add a good sense of family, moving the story forward and in this case, giving a hint of what might be leading to a future book involving vampire Damek. I just hope I’m right.

Cast down into purgatory, a demon is seeking revenge on the twin witches Nick and Nate Collins. Two years after he was banished, the demon is finally ready to strike the twins down, turning their dreams into nightmares.

Personal Strangers is the third book in the Witches and Wolves series. Werewolf Bruce and witch Nate are married. Nick and his werewolf Redd are planning their wedding. Nate blamed himself for the many years of rift between him and his twin Nick, as well as their parents, all because of Nate’s paranoia and jealousy.  Finally the family’s broken relationship is mending. True to their nature, Bruce and Redd always did everything they could to protect, as well as make their mates Nate and Nick happy. However, because of Nate and Nick’s magic, both Bruce and Redd have been endangered by demons.

Saloni Quinby’s Personal Strangers showcases a psychological plot posing the question of “what would the world be like if I did not exist?” This is the dilemma Nate and Nick are faced with. There are many intriguing aspects featured in this short story but I will leave those for the readers to discover. Personal Strangers is a marvelous as well as an exceedingly enjoyable saga.

Rueben Blaecleah was crazy about Elijah James but when the deeply closeted lawyer rejected him, he was horribly hurt. Rueben couldn’t stay and see Elijah nearly every day so he left the family ranch to travel the world. Now, three years later he’s coming home, but he’s bringing a surprise …a baby. Ruben hopes he can convince Elijah that he still cares, and that a relationship together is worth taking the risk of stepping out of the closet. That they belong together.

Losing a lover emotionally scarred Elijah and the idea that it could happen again…this time to Rueben…terrifies him. He’s just not willing to take the chance of getting hurt again. But when family problems arise for Rueben, Elijah’s forced to make a decision. Will he step out of the closet and help the man he loves or stay inside where he’s been living, safe but miserable?

Cowboy Up is the newest release in Stormy Glenn’s Blaecleah Brothers series. This one could be read as a standalone but I’d recommend the books be read in order.

Bringing a baby into the Blaecleah family was a pleasant but an unexpected direction for the plot line to go. That’s especially true when we learn how Rueben becomes a father and husband. Some avid gay genre readers may find the manner in which he conceived his child unsettling but in the real world, battle passion happens. I love how tender and besotted Rueben is with his daughter and how happy his family is with their newest addition.

I like Rueben a lot. He’s a great character…tenderhearted, caring and protective of his loved ones. Elijah’s a good friend and great lawyer but he’s so confused about what he wants, it made the first part of the relationship…their wooing…very confusing. It’s like he and Rueben are in an annoying cycle they can’t break and I didn’t understand why Rueben put up with it as long as he did.

I have to admit that I’m disappointed in the plot’s external conflict…the villainous drama brought into the story. The things that happen in this portion seem just so unrealistic, I had trouble accepting them. Still, that doesn’t mean the story wasn’t entertaining. Watch for the next book in the series, featuring Seamus, title unknown at this time.

Bree has fallen in love with Drew, but knows she has to walk away if she is going to reach her goals.  She also doesn’t think Drew wants her the way he used to want her partner.  Drew has fallen in love with Bree, but is keeping secrets.

Under the Covers, the fifth book in The Lothario series, finally resolves the mystery that has been central in the last few books.  In addition, we learn more about the various government agencies involvement among the crew and passengers on the ship.  One thing that I found very realistic is the lack of communication between the various agencies, as we read about that constantly in the news.

The heat factor between Drew and Bree is very intense so keep ice on hand for this one.  Readers that love chocolate will want to pay close attention to one particular scene between the two because it would be something to definitely try.  Both are very confident people that are hiding some old hurts, which sometimes come between the couple.  Several of the couples from the previous books make an appearance as well.

While we learn a little more about The Lothario, I noticed that the last few books of this series were more about the characters and their relationships.  I still like the concept of this ship and will be reading this series again.

Judgment without thought is not always correct when it comes to crimes of passion and matters of the heart. Thus is the case of cop Blake Astor and his rent boy lover Io Spencer. Blake and Io chose to run rather than chance the scales of justice would tip in their favor after the murder of Io’s pimp.

Sinful is the sequel to Sin Row. In Blake’s mind, escaping with Io is an opportunity to have a second chance with a better future if they can avoid getting caught. Unhappy with his job as a cop and all of the negatives around him, Blake decides they should head for Canada. Io fears turning over his independence to Blake. Io’s dark side, as well as Blake’s jealousy, is the main source of conflict between Io and Blake. It takes an act of kindness from a stranger for Blake and Io to admit they share a love for each other.

Scarlet Blackwell’s Sinful is an intriguing hard-hitting happy-for-now enjoyable saga.

Reader Advisory: contains one ménage scene.

Artistic Pursuits

When three expensive Tiffany glass windows are stolen from the Milwaukee Conservatory of Music, FBI agent Frank Jennings and Interpol agent Leslie Carlton are thrown together on the case.  As the investigation progresses, it becomes apparent their theft is only a small part of a large international art theft ring. Long days of searching leads to nothing that can help them their case and after a night of blistering passion, Leslie is sent back to London.

With Leslie gone, Frank and his fellow agents continue the search and it gets more complicated by the day. Finally weeks later, they get the lead they need, which pulls Leslie back from London.  Can these two dedicated and committed men who live on different continents find a way into each other’s hearts? After all, Leslie’s been tracking down these art thieves for more than a decade. Can they survive the danger?

Artistic Pursuits is the newest release in Andrew Grey’s Art series. Since the characters from the previous release plays a minor role, this book can easily be read as a standalone.

I love the premise of this one…it’s so realistic. It could be taken from the headlines of any major newspaper in the world. Really. What could be more exciting than an international art theft ring, mixed in with a great love story? Mr. Grey’s vivid details of the stolen art, the investigation, city and character personalities all work seamlessly to grab the reader’s attention and pull them into the story. Add in Frank and Leslie’s sizzling attraction, a well-written plot, fast pace, some great secondaries (I’m talking Karl), action, danger, suspense and creepy art thieves and you’ve got it all.

We also get to see a little of Brian and Nicolai who we last saw in Artistic Appeal. I’d love to see more of them in future releases, as well as Karl…he deserves a book of his own. If I have one complaint, it’s that Leslie’s British ‘voice’ is inconsistent and isn’t convincing. Nevertheless, I thoroughly enjoyed this entertaining and engaging book and will be reading it again in the future. Look for the next release in the series, Legal Tender.
